Melike Gömleksiz

1999 in Saint-Pol-sur-Mer, France
based in Karlsruhe and Pforzheim, Germany

Melike Gömleksiz works with watercolor and etching to create reduced compositions between abstraction and figuration. Minimal lines and restrained color articulate quiet forms of presence and the temporary visibility of minority experience within dominant cultural structures. Inspired by her background as the daughter of second-generation Turkish immigrants, her work explores hybridity, memory, and emotionality. Through reduction, she approaches identity as fragmented, marginalized, and continuously shifting.
